The Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue awarded Justin LaCoursiere, a security guard from Chippewa County, a commendation for heroism on July 17.
Earlier this spring, one of our Upper Peninsula security guards, Justin Lacoursiere, was on vacation with his girlfriend in Florida. While on the beach, he heard two teenage boys yelling for help. They were swept out by a rip current and were unable to swim back to shore. After hearing their cries, Justin jumped in the water on his surfboard and saved the two boys. He recently received a life-saving award from the emergency agency in that area.
